Numerous Mylan WTT Family members posted victories on a successful Day 3 of Roland Garros in Paris.
Among those in the winners‘ circle included the New York Empire‘s John Isner and Eugenie Bouchard. Isner, the 21st seed, defeated Jordan Thompson 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-3 to win his opening round at the event for the sixth consecutive year. Bouchard turned the tide to overcome Risa Ozaki 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and 48 minutes, setting a second-round meeting with 17th-seeded Anastasija Sevastova.
A trio of Mylan WTT women also booked their places in the second round with straight-sets victories. Daria Kasatkina topped Yanina Wickmayer of the Orange County Breakers 7-5, 6-4 and next meets 17-year-old Marketa Vondrousova. Taylor Townsend (Philadelphia Freedoms), who achieved her best major result with a third-round showing in Paris three years ago, eased past Miyu Kato 6-4, 6-0 after breaking the Japanese six times. Springfield Lasers newcomer Sorana Cirstea, a former quarterfinalist, blitzed Shuai Peng 6-3, 6-1 in 59 minutes.
The men flew the flag on the opening day of doubles action. San Diego Aviators duo Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram began their title quest with a 7-6(5), 6-2 victory over Kenny De Schepper and Vincent Millot. Klaasen and Ram, seeded eighth here, have won two team trophies in 2017 (Indian Wells and Delray Beach). Mylan WTT tandem Michael Venus (Orange County Breakers) and Ryan Harrison (San Diego Aviators) topped Frances Tiafoe (Washington Kastles) and Diego Schwartzman 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Venus and Harrison, recent winners of the clay event in Estoril, could meet fourth-seeded Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo in the second round.
Bruno Soares (Washington Kastles) and Jamie Murray, the No. 5 seeds beat Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki 6-3, 7-6(7). Soares and Murray captured Grand Slam titles at the 2016 Australian Open and 2016 US Open. Jean-Julien Rojer (Springfield Lasers) and Horia Tecau cruised through 6-2, 6-1 against Thomaz Bellucci and Carlos Berlocq. Rojer won the 2014 mixed doubles crown in Paris with Anna-Lena Groenefeld. Donald Young (Philadephia Freedoms) rounded out the day‘s winners alongside Santiago Gonzalez, edging Young‘s teammate Fabrice Martin and Daniel Nestor 7-6(4), 6-7(4), 6-3
