With 51 teams in attendance and nine divisions being contested, the tournament, which was held at the Heritage Park in Irvine, Calif., extended the season for a few more teams.

3.0 Division:

Although it was a small field in the 3.0 Division, each match was critical if you wanted to make it to Nationals. Racquet Warriors of Richmond, Calif., started off strong with a win over hometown team Wii Tennis, of Irvine, Calif. But after losing their second contest to Fresno Tennis Club of Kingsburg, Calif., it was all Fresno the rest of the tournament. Fresno Tennis Club racked up four straight double digit wins against their opponent to secure a chance to play in the November Nationals. Led by captain Dave Colby (captain), other Nationals-bound teammates included Betty Roseth, Christina Moreno, Prisco Ramirez, Rene Rivera, Silverio Pimentel and Susana Talamaivao, all of Fresno, Calif.; Debra Holtermann and Diane Diedrich, both of Clovis, Calif.; and Jordan Adams, San Luis Obispo, Calif.

3.5 Division:

In the highly contested 3.5 Division, teams knew that their performance during round robin play would determine their chances of advancement to Nationals with a Finals appearance on the line. Both Victorious Secret of Murray, Utah, and local Disorder in the Court, of Irvine, Calif., made their presence known as they each captured three consecutive wins to play their way into the Division Championship. While Victorious Secret had a larger margin of victory over their first three opponents than Disorder in the Court in their three matches, each squad knew what they had to do. The out-of-town team rose to the occasion, as Victorious Secret defeated Disorder in the Court 31-22 to win their division and earn their first trip to Indian Wells. Led by captain Regen McManus (captain), other championship teammates included Brad Brooks, Draper, Utah; Heather Foy, Holladay, Utah; Renee Utgaard and Sam Lee, both of Salt Lake City.

4.0 Division:

Competing in the division with the most teams of the weekend meant the stakes were high for all those involved. After each team had three round robin matches to set themselves apart from the rest of the field, four teams earned a semifinal spot including Poaching Tigers, Hitting Dragons, of Playa Vista, Calif.; Cinnamon Fire 2, of San Diego; Love Breakers, of Foothills Ranch, Calif.; and Boot Camp of Irvine, Calif. In the first of the two semifinal matches, Poaching Tigers, Hitting Dragons continued their winning ways by edging out Cinnamon Fire 2, 30-26, to move into the final. The second semifinal was even closer but it was Boot Camp that prevailed in a 25-23 nail-biter to meet Poaching Tigers, Hitting Dragons for a chance to attend Nationals.

In the end, Poaching Tigers, Hitting Dragons was too much to tame as they posted a 27-19 victory over Boot Camp to win the division for the first time. Led by non-playing captain Dwight Liu (non-playing captain) other titlist team members included Anurag Mehta, Santa Monica, Calif.; Bryan Fuji, Doris Obih, Erica Perkins, Gene Kim, Kristin Nava and Tim Griffin, all of Los Angeles; Mayu Kawamura, Harbor City, Calif.; Richard Stark, Culver City, Calif.; and Roselle Paskus, Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.

4.5 Division:

The 4.5 Division had five teams fighting for the bid to the year-end tournament, four from California and one from Colorado. Each team would play four matches during the weekend to determine which would advance. In the early matches, Sets on the Beach, of Cardiff, Calif., seemed to be tough competition, collecting two wins before their first defeat. However, it was Topspin Club Soda, of Chino Hills, Calif., that brushed off a one-point win over Sets in the City, of Montebello, Calif., in their first match to charge back to win three straight and capture the division title. Led by co-captains Feibi Liu and Jenfei Hsieh, other teammates making their inaugural trip to Nationals included Danielle Caro, Feng Shi, Jim Chao, and Riccardo Lemos, all of Irvine, Calif.; and Destiny Dao Le and Jon Phi Vu, both of Westminster, Calif.

Senior 3.5 Division:

Another five-team field in the Senior 3.5 Division set up a round robin tournament that made every match count. Desperados, of Bixby, Okla., was the clear favorite out of the gate winning their first three matches convincingly. Meanwhile, Ace Gang, of Playa Vista, Calif., was collecting a couple of wins as well before meeting Desperados in their third match of the weekend. Propelled by their recent successes, Ace Gang outlasted Desperados 33-26 to tally another victory, but they still had to win their final contest against Serve Aces, of Orange, Calif., to solidify their undefeated run and punch their first ticket to Indian Wells. Led by captain Yayomi Kanai, other division champions included Brian Pado and Gary Pado, both of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; Catherine Zingale and Fernando Donate, both of Santa Monica, Calif.; David King, Anthony Tanner, Jennifer Butcher, Lydia Olivier and Monica Mason, all of Los Angeles.

Senior 4.0 Division:

Eight teams suited up to make a run at the Senior 4.0 title, but only one team would have the chance to win their way into the Nationals this November. One team set the pace from the get-go, and it was The Older I Get, the Better I Was, of La Mesa, Calif. They posted three convincing wins in their first three matchups, and Ace Bandages, of Playa Vista, Calif., which scored two big wins followed by a third match close contest. When the two undefeated teams met in the final, it was Ace Bandages that managed to keep the victories coming with a 31-22 win over The Older I Get, the Better I Was to earn a bid to Nationals. Led by non-playing captain ÔÇô leading her second team of the weekend to Nationals – Yayomi Kanai, other winning team members included Amy (Haiyan) Liang, Arcadia, Calif.; Donna Leventhal, Jim Grollman and Victor Villegas, all of Los Angeles; Israel Mora, Hawthorne, Calif.; Janet Stearns, Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.; Melvin Navarro, Porter Ranch, Calif.; Sherith Lewis, Burbank, Calif.; Stephanie Juillerat, Glendora, Calif.; and Tuan Nguyen, Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.

Senior 4.5 Division:

With the Senior 4.5 title on the line, four teams would play three matches each to decide who was advancing to Indian Wells. All About Ace, of Playa Vista, Calif., had two one-point wins to start their tournament campaign, giving them momentum as they met the other two-win team, Middle Solves the Riddle, of Los Angeles. Both with the chance to make it to their first Nationals, Middle Solves the Riddle doubled down and dismissed All About Ace 34-21 to win their third match and take the division. Led by captain Geraldine Brantley, other championship teammates included Brigitte Champion, Gregory Dougles and Victor Champion, all of Los Angeles; Britani Golden, Studio City, Calif.; Eleazar Heracleopolis, Granada Hills, Calif.; Fitzroy Samoth, N. Hollywood, Calif.; Iris Van Sciver, View Park, Calif.; Kirk Gillett, Downey, Calif.; and Sherryl Chaffin, Palmdale, Calif.

Super Senior 3.5 Division:

Three teams arrived in Irvine with their eye on the Super Senior 3.5 Division title, but only one would walk out of the weekend with that accomplishment. The road to Indian Wells was met with high expectations for one particular team as they came into the weekend as former division champions. Hits & Mrs of San Diego, knew that they needed to go undefeated to make their way back to the Nationals. Their first two victories came in double digits against Super Serve Aces, of Costa Mesa, Calif., and LyLy‘s Team, of San Leandro, Calif., respectively. In the second round matchup with both teams, Hits & Mrs continued their domination and added two more wins to go 4-0 on the weekend and return to the top of their division. Led by captain Lynda Jackson other winning teammates included Paivi Burke, Bobbi Koala, Ed Jackson, Judy Rockland and Joe Juhasz, all of San Diego; Diane Boudreau, La Jolla, Calif.

Super Senior 4.0 Division:

In the Super Senior 4.0 Division, both Swinging Seniors, of Playa Vista, Calif., and Diehards, of Long Beach, Calif., both scored two wins against the third team in the division, Lancaster Lazers, of Lancaster, Calif. But when the two faced off in their two contests, they split with Swinging Seniors sliding by Diehards in the first 27-25, and Diehards countering with a 27-25 win in the second match. Both finishing the weekend with a 3-1 record, it came down to winning percentage, where Swinging Seniors had the advantage and handing them their first division title. Led by non-playing captain Dwight Liu is joined by winning team members Greg Frampton, Shizu Takayasu and Elaine Symonds, all of Los Angeles; Jady Von Der Lieth and Michael Rapkin, both of Santa Monica, Calif.; Karen Berliner and Robert Rudelius, both of Marina del Rey, Calif.; Kyle Van Amersfort, Lakewood, Calif.; Michael Levitt, Venice Calif.; and Nancy Closson, Playa del Rey, Calif.
